Term One

Dear Parents,

Welcome back to the new school year.  I trust you all had a wonderful holiday.  Below is information to get the year underway.

 Classroom items needed

If you have spare ice-cream containers with lids, jars and empty tin cans and would like to donate them to the classroom we would be very grateful. Also boxes of tissues and plasters are always handy.

 Water

We do encourage children to drink water throughout the day as this significantly helps concentration.  The only negative is more toilet stops!  Please could all children have a water bottle at school every day?

 Homework

We will ease you into the school year and begin homework next week.  Details of homework will come home at that stage however the standard weekly homework is reading daily, spelling and basic facts work.  In the meantime, enjoy these summer afternoons!

 Book Bags

Each child does need a book bag to ensure both homework books and school readers are well cared for when transported between school and home.

 School books

Just a reminder to organise stationary for the year, this can be ordered online. It is a great idea to ‘coverseal’ the books as it keeps them tidy and is great for identification purposes.  Please label the books with your child’s name and room 22 and label all other stationery with their name and room number.  We will start using books as soon as everyone has them at school, hopefully by Monday.

 Parent Help

If you are interested in helping out there is always a box of books to be put away or things to be laminated at the back of the class. For anything special I will send a letter home.

If your child is not happy about anything throughout the year, please encourage them to talk with me about it themselves but do not hesitate to come and see me yourself before anything becomes too major.  Feel free to pop in or email me on jchristini@otonga.school.nz

I look forward to a productive and busy year with lots of learning.
