FOUR WINDS NEWS - 13th December 2023

PRINCIPAL’S NEWS – TERM 4 WEEK 10

Kia ora Koutou - Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Our last Four Winds News for 2023 is one to say thank you. Thank you to our teachers and support staff for everything you have done to develop our tamariki in all areas. We have had a great deal of fun this year, fantastic learning experiences, academic progress and achievement.

We are lucky to have such amazing support from our community and we are very proud of our students. Thank you to the BOT and PTA for their continued support.

I trust that you will enjoy the festive season with your children and return safely on Tuesday 30th January 2024 after a well-deserved break.

There will be an opportunity to meet with the teachers on the 30th of January 2024 at Otonga Progress Plans (OPPs) ‘Know me before you teach me’ Meetings. Please book a time. Students only come to school at the time of the appointment on that day.

On 31st January 2024, all students to be back. Looking forward to seeing you all then.

Mr Cunliffe's Holiday Challenge

Staff for 2024

Otonga School Te Kura o Tihiōtonga is once again really fortunate to have a team of fantastic staff for 2024. We look forward to working together with each other and for our tamariki.

Welcome

Whaea Aroha

Kia ora, my name is Whaea Aroha and I am so excited to be joining the Otonga School whānau next year. I am married to Josh Porteous and have two beautiful girls named Alina and Kiara. We love family walks, time at the beach and a good cafe! I look forward to meeting everyone soon.

Miss Lewthwaite

Kia ora, my name is Mairead and I am looking forward to rejoining the Otonga School whānau in the new year! I have recently moved home to Rotorua after studying in Auckland for the past three years. I spend most of my free time outside with my partner Bronson and our dogs, and we love camping, exploring and fishing. I am looking forward to meeting all your tamariki and supporting them on their learning journey!

Whaea Sarah

My name is Whaea Sarah. I grew up locally, trained at the Dunedin College of Education and have done most of my teaching in and around Rotorua. I am married to Allan and have two children, Caleb and Renee. When I am not busy following their sport and adventures, I love to run the trails in the redwoods, visit extended family or head to the beach. I'm looking forward to joining the Otonga School team.

Whaea April

Kia ora and Annyeong-haseyo! My name is Whaea April, and I'm thrilled to join the Otonga School whānau next year. Born in South Korea, I spent a decade in Singapore, immersing myself in the diverse cultures of Southeast Asia. With Rotorua being my home for the past six years I’ve embraced the unique culture and beauty of Aotearoa New Zealand. I’m looking forward to bringing my experience into the classroom and creating an engaging and inclusive space for our tamariki to thrive in.

Whaea Tracy

Kia ora, my name is Whaea Tracy, and I'm excited to become a part of the Otonga School community. My husband Craig, and I relocated to New Zealand from South Africa nearly six years ago with our two boys, Benjamin and Mathew. Our family has a deep love for the outdoors and enjoy exploring the natural beauty of New Zealand.
I look forward to sharing this learning journey with our tamariki in 2024.

Good Bye

Mrs Lynne Armstrong will be retiring after many years in education. We thank her for her dedication to the teaching profession and to Otonga School from 2006.

Mrs Sarah Barnett will be going on parental leave to have her baby. We wish her all of the best. She has done a fantastic job leading Ako Kiwi this year.

Whaea Lorraine Horder will be leaving us as a full-time teacher but coming back next year to help with teacher release. Your fantastic work this year is much appreciated.

Whaea Shannen Fisher and her partner will be leaving Rotorua for Mackay. She has done a splendid job in Room 4 with our new entrant tamariki and we hope that she comes back to us after she returns to NZ.
Kind regards
Gareth Cunliffe

Important Message from KINDO

Is your student leaving or changing school?
A few important steps if your student is leaving or changing schools next year:
Find out if your new school is using Kindo: Ask the school directly or go to “My Details” in myKindo and click on the list of schools to see if your new school is listed.
If your new school IS using Kindo: Simply click on the new school from the list in “My Details” of your Kindo account and you’ll be attached to the new school’s menu. Any balance on your Kindo account will remain available to spend with the new school. If you have personalised accounts on your myKindo portal, there may be a slight delay as the schools switch records over.
If your new school is NOT using Kindo, or your student is leaving school: You may need to close your account. If you have another student starting within the next 14 months you may keep it open. To close your account, follow these steps:
  1. Please stop any regular automatic payments now.
  2. Use the “Close Account” button within the “My Details” page on myKindo. You can either withdraw your account balance or choose to donate your balance to the school. Please note that all withdrawals will be made via electronic payment to your New Zealand bank account. Kindo is unable to process cash withdrawals.
If you want to withdraw your Kindo account balance, or make a donation that exceeds Kindo’s threshold of $10,000 total per year, Kindo will need to undertake some identity checks on you to comply with its obligations under the Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Countering Financing of Terrorism (CFT) Act 2009.

Please action the withdrawal or donation in your Kindo account as outlined above and if these AML checks are necessary Kindo will advise of the next steps required in this regard. Kindo has endeavoured to make this process as pain-free as possible and appreciates your patience. More information is available here.
