Term Dates 2018
My name is Jenny Prouse-Lewis, Andrew Lewis is my husband and we have four fantastic children, all of which attended/attend Otonga school, Derryn is 23 he is a mechanic, Brier is 20 and in her 2nd year of an art & design degree, Amber is 19 and works at a law office and Reif is 10 and in his last year at Otonga. We have had a relationship with the staff and pupils of Otonga School for 16 years. Over the last couple of years, I have been a teacher aide at Otonga and with the unending support of the staff I am now studying full time to gain my Bachelor of Teaching and Learning. I have periodically been a member of the Otonga School Support Group (PTA) and chairperson for 2015 and co-opted as a board of trustees’ member for that time.
Having sat on the board for a year, learning what responsibilities and requirements face a board member, I feel I have successfully completed my apprenticeship and would like to serve again. The skills I bring are an understanding of the building industry, good communication skills and I’m not afraid to ask the hard questions, these are skills I gained through being an interior designer for 20 odd years. Andrew has also worked in the building industry for 25 years and makes his brain available to me to pick. I also have an ever increasing knowledge of the education sector and education its self with a particular interest in alternative teaching styles to accommodate children that learn differently. I believe in making all people of Otonga Schools community comfortable in knowing that their school is being overseen by parents very similar you. That their children will be counted and accommodated as individuals. I believe in inclusion and a bi-cultural New Zealand. I consider that a board of trustee’s operations should be transparent and its members approachable. I will commit my time, skills and energy to helping Otonga School remain a school that knows why it’s here, to provide our children with foundation education that enables them to be lifelong learners and happy New Zealanders. ~ Jenny Prouse-Lewis
