Tom Moffatt

Tom Moffatt is a telecommunications technician, former primary school teacher, children’s author and, most importantly, father of three lovely girls. His eldest daughter, Anabella, is currently in year 3 at Otonga Road Primary School, paving the way for her younger sisters, Matilda and Hazel, who are 4½ and 1½ respectively. He currently works in telecommunications for Phocal Communications, who install and maintain phone systems and CCTV in businesses throughout the Bay of Plenty. Formally an international primary school teacher, Tom spent 12 years living and working in London, Japan, Italy, United Arab Emirates and Colombia. While originally from the UK, Tom has been living in New Zealand for 6 years and considers it his home. He is also a children’s literature enthusiast and an award-winning author of books and jokes for kids. He is passionate about literacy and reading, and enjoys visiting schools as an author and storyteller. While Tom has no prior experience in board meetings from a parental perspective, he was frequently involved in committees within the school system and has worked hard to improve an under-resourced school library and increase the level of language support for students with English as a second language. With his teaching experience combined with his present role as Daddy, Tom hopes to bring a balanced perspective to decision making on the Board of Trustees.
