BYMC (Bring your managed chromebook)

Bring Your Managed Chromebook

Our children are using devices more regularly in their learning and in the sharing of their learning with their whanau. With the implementation of the new Digital Technologies Curriculum and the improved abilities of our students to use devices for learning we are finding it is necessary to have more than one group using devices at at time. We simply do not have the computers available to do this.

To meet our growing need it is strongly recommended in 2019 that students in Year 4&5  bring their own chromebook to school to work on. In 2020 we are aiming for all students in Years 3-6  have their own chromebook. We understand some families have already purchased Ipads and we are happy for your children to continue using them.

We have always had a good balance between online learning and pen and paper learning. We fully understand the research supporting the use of writing in the development of the brain and this important skill will not be neglected.

Otonga School currently has a BYOD policy in place as well as a clear e-values learning agreement. We will be changing to a BYMC Policy - Bring your managed chromebook. The difference here is that we want the students to only bring chromebooks from now on. We will pay for and manage the chrome license for each child’s device. This will establish that chromebooks are used for learning purposes only and ensure the online safety for our students at school and at home.

Purchasing Devices

To support parents, we have contacted Noel Leeming, Harvey Norman and Warehouse Stationery to forward brochures with special deals for chromebooks. We will pass these on as we get them.

Families are able to purchase from anywhere they choose.

Noel Leemings   please tell them you are from Otonga School and ask them about Nga Pumanawa e Waru pricing and finance options.

Newly purchased devices need to be set up before they can be used at school. Talk to the classroom teacher about the process for this.

In 2019 all chromebooks will be set up at the start of the year. Chrome Licences will be purchased for each device by the school. A BYOC agreement form will need to be signed. These are available from the teacher or downloaded from this link.
