ESOL and Foreign Students
Otonga School has students from 26 different nationalities and happily embraces the diversity this adds to our school.
We are a signatory to the Code of Practice which allows the school to also enrol foreign fee-paying students.
We provide a specialist teacher who not only takes the children for English Language lessons in small groups, but who also has responsibilities for pastoral care of these students.
In the classroom, teachers have access to many resources created specifically to support language learning, and the homeculture of the students and their families are often highlighted and celebrated through our range of Globalisation studies.
Parents are welcomed warmly to our school community, and where needed special meetings may be held to address any particular needs their child may have.
Multicultual Rotorua, provide a source of support and contacts for our migrant families. (https://multiculturalnz.org.nz/Rotorua+Multicultural+Council+Inc)
